Holy Week and Easter Mass Signups

This year, due to the pandemic, we must limit the number of people in the church for each of the Holy Week Liturgies. Please note that the obligation to attend Mass remains lifted by Archbishop Kurtz and virtual options will be available.  If you do plan to attend in person, please sign up online via the QR code below.  You will receive a confirmation email that you signed up. If you do not get a confirmation email double check that you have submitted your information or contact Chris Tolbert (music@staloysiuspwv.org).

Ash Wednesday Procedures

This year Lent begins on Wednesday, February 17, Ash Wednesday. Mass will be at 8:15am in the Church.  At 7pm we will have a Liturgy of the Word service with distribution of Ashes; also in the Church.

Many people are not aware that Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of obligation. However, Ash Wednesday is typically a day that most Catholics attend Mass and receive ashes on their forehead. This year due to COVID ashes will be distributed a little differently. Below is a message from the Office of Worship explaining the new procedures and giving you a bit of history and context.

In accordance with instructions from the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, there will be some changes to the distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday this year amid the coronavirus pandemic. At the appropriate time in the liturgy, the priest will bless the ashes and then, aloud to the whole assembly, say the words indicated in the Missal: “Repent and believe in the Gospel” or “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” This is said only once and not individually to each person. Ashes will then be distributed to the faithful in the form of sprinkling on the top of the head. This method avoids direct skin contact between persons. While most Americans are more familiar with the placing of ashes on the forehead in the shape of a cross, the sprinkling of ashes is very common in Catholic cultures around the world.

The ministers and the faithful wear masks throughout this rite of distribution of ashes. While waiting in line, social distancing protocols (similar to those in place for distribution of Holy Communion) should be observed. The Church considers the blessed ashes to be a “sacramental” – a tangible sign that inspires reverence as we enter into the holy and penitential season of Lent. While this is an important sign of our faith, it is by no means a requirement. Those who feel uncomfortable may simply choose not to receive ashes this year.

Christmas Mass Schedule

Obligation to attend Christmas Mass this year has also been lifted by Archbishop Kurtz, but for those who wish to attend, he has given us the ability to add a Mass as early as 2pm on Christmas Eve this year.

We will have Christmas Eve Masses at 2pm, 5pm, and 8pm, and on Christmas Day at 11am.  Attendance will be limited, so people will need to sign-up for the Mass they wish to attend.  To sign up just scan the QR code below or look for sign-up sheets in the back of church.  You may also contact the parish office, if you will be visiting just for Christmas (email parishoffice@staloysiuspwv.org). These Masses will be live-streamed for those who do not wish to attend in person. Live streaming is available on the parish Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/staloysius.

Reconciliation This Advent

In addition to Saturday mornings, confession will be offered on Wednesday nights during the season of Advent.  Confession will be offered December 2, 9, 16, and 23rd in the Church from 6-7pm.  Keep in mind that the same safety procedures that we have been following will still be expected.  There needs to be no more than 10 people in the Church at one time.  If you arrive and you see that there is already 10 people inside the Church, please wait outside in your vehicle until someone else leaves the Church.  Also, we ask that you maintain social distancing while inside the Church. Spread out around the building and please do not form a line outside the confessional.  And be sure to wear your mask at all times.  As always, you can contact Father John if you need to schedule your private appointment, Jstoltz@staloysiuspwv.org.

Typically, door prizes and event prizes/awards are an important and enjoyable part of our event, as the prizes and, more important, the money that is brought in is so vitally important to the core of our event goals…continued monetary support for our kid’s educational and athletic lives at St. Aloysius.

Given the world climate we live in, we chose to effectively modify this year’s event and eliminate both door prizes and event prizes, as we felt that asking local merchants and partners to donate would be insensitive and incorrect, not to mention difficult.  That said, we hope that a day of fellowship, great food and refreshments, and also some good-to-average golf is enough to bring you out with us on what we hope will still be a very relaxing and fun day.

Please call Mike Carr (502-377-0653), Brad Raybourne (303-931-6060),John Risimini (502-552-8460), and/or John Bestenlehner (612-940-7926) if you are interested in playing, sponsoring a hole and/or donating prizes.  Please submit your entry as soon as possible.  Make checks payable to St. Aloysius and return, with registration form, to us at any of the below addresses:
