St Aloysius Parish Boy's Choir 2011-2012St Aloysius Boys’ Choir 2011-2012
St. Aloysius Boys’ Choir offers a unique opportunity for children to give their gifts of talent and time back to the church while learning about music and the liturgy. All boys in third grade or higher who are parishioners of St. Aloysius are invited to participate in this rewarding ministry. Your child will learn how to find his “head voice”, that beautiful angelic quality of sound that we all love to hear in pre-adolescent boys. During the school year, we will participate in weekend, Christmas and Easter Masses. Your child will learn much about the mass, the church, music, and the role of a choir in the liturgy. We will also sing at events in the community during the year, and as well as hold a Concert of Prayer for Vocations in May which culminates the choir year. Our practices are Wednesdays from 3:00 to 4:15 in the Church. Children and parents are encouraged to read the Boys’ Choir Guidelines and Information pages. These short two pages give a good overview on how the Boys’ Choir works and should answer most questions. In general, the Boys’ Choir sings at the weekend Masses once or twice a month at either the 8:00 or 11:00 Sunday masses. A calendar with all of the dates for practices and masses will be distributed to the children on the first day of practice. The calendar, permission form and the Boys’ Choir Guidelines are attached. Children must have a permission form filled out and signed by a parent in order to participate in the choir. Children who attend St. Aloysius School must show their permission form to their teacher so the teacher can release the child to us at the end of school. Otherwise, a parent will have to bring the child to practice. Permissions forms should be turned in to the choir director at choir practice. Do not turn in forms at the school office. Any parents interested in volunteering should contact me or make a note on the permission form. If you can help every now and then or if you can help every week, I’m sure we can find a way to make use of whatever time and talents you’re willing to share. Musical talent is always welcome, but a lot of what we need is adult supervision and organizational help. Please contact me if you have any questions, comments, or if you wish to volunteer.
